Discussion: Should animals be kept in zoos?
Lesson 8: To write a discussion (Part 2)
Yesterday we wrote the title and the introduction. In this lesson, we will write an argument for and against keeping animals in zoos. You do not need to write as much as the teacher! This is just a guide. Some of you will want to and that is fine! Below are the expectation for each year group:
Y1: Write 1 sentence for and 1 sentence against keeping animals in zoos and give the reasons. Start each sentence like this:
'Some people think animals should be kept in zoos because ...'
'Some people think animals should not be kept in zoos because ...'
Don't forget to use a capital letter, finger spaces and a full stop.
Challenge (optional): give more than one reason using the conjunction 'and' to join ideas.
Y2: Write 1-2 sentences for keeping animals in zoos and 1-2 sentences against keeping animals in zoo giving reasons. Start each sentence like this:
'Some people think animals should be kept in zoos because ...'
'Some people think animals should not be kept in zoos because ...'
Use 'and' if you are giving more than one reason. Don't forget to use a capital letter, finger spaces and a full stop.
Challenge (optional): Use 'Firstly, Secondly and Thirdly' (if you do a third sentence) to start your sentences.
Science: Microhabitats and minibeasts!
Minibeasts live in microhabitats. They are invertebrates which means they do not have a backbone. They are small animals like spiders, slugs, butterflies and caterpillars. We often call them 'creepy-crawlies'. Watch the video presentation below to find out more about minibeasts and complete the matching activity on Teams.
Have a go at drawing some of your own minibeasts if you like! Follow the link to the really simple tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcUqwwTE6g4&ab_channel=CamPlapp

You must read your reading book every day, just as we do in school. We do this after lunch but you can do it whenever you like! An adult must sign your diary to show this has taken place. You can of course read some of your own books at home to supplement reading. It would be great if this could be recorded in your diary too.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
