4/2/21 Home Learning
All worksheets to accompany the following activities can be found on Teams. Please complete all tasks before handing in your work. Don't forget to use the 'turn in' function when you have finished your work. Also look out for feedback when I return your work.
There is a lot of work today, especially this afternoon but I would be grateful for anyone who can complete and share their Science work in Teams Files. Click below to go directly to the folder.
We have another Oak Class Meeting tomorrow at 11am. It would be great to see as many of you as possible.

Have a go at the 5 in 5 and then have a go at the World Book Day investigations
Today is World Book Day so we are going to start off with our first investigation of the day.
There is space over to the right of this text if you want somewhere record your investigations.
Have a look at this extract from The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by CS Lewis
“Lucy felt a little frightened, but she felt very inquisitive and excited as well. She looked back over her shoulder and there, between the dark tree trunks; she could still see the open doorway of the wardrobe and even catch a glimpse of the empty room from which she had set out. (She had, of course, left the door open, for she knew that it is a very silly thing to shut oneself into a wardrobe.)
It seemed to be still daylight there. “I can always get back if anything goes wrong,” thought Lucy. She began to walk forward, crunch-crunch over the snow and through the wood towards the other light. In about ten minutes she reached it and found it was a lamp-post.
As she stood looking at it, wondering why there was a lamp-post in the middle of a wood and wondering what to do next, she heard a pitter patter of feet coming towards her. And soon after that a very strange person stepped out from among the trees into the light of the lamp-post.
Now complete the investigations below:
Now that you have completed these investigations, onto our next investigation involving measurements - Book measurements.
Measure the length, width and depth of the books in your shelves.
Is the book with the largest front cover area also the book with the greatest volume?
What are the title and measurements of the book with the greatest number of words in it? Is it the book with the most number of pages?
To estimate the number of pages in a book, you are going to count the number of words on the first full page, then you are going to multiply that number by the number of pages.
Linking it to algebra
Words on the first full page (W) x number of pages in the book(P) = Total number of words(T)
Or as an algebraic equation W x P = T
simple really!
Spelling
Looking at the 3/4 word list and the 5/6 word list in your reading diary, record the homophones in the lists and create sentences for them.
English
We are going to look at the character and analyse them.

Science
Firstly, I have had a request from Mrs Morgan (Newstead's Science Co-ordinator) asking if she can have any photos or videos of you doing Science investigations at home. It would also be great to see if some of you can come up with something to share with her, showing your argument for or against selective breeding from today's work.
Whether that is:
Yesterday you looked at selective breeding and some information about 6 different characters that have strong feelings about the issue.
The page today is going to be massive, but at least you have got everything that you might need in one place. I have added this file below and in Teams Files so that you can print it if you want to.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
