This years theme is
‘Innovating for the future’
To kick start this week we will watch a video featuring the Rube Goldberg machine. Something that will inspire your inquisitive minds.
I wonder what happens at the end?
Science Investigation one
This week you will become an architect, someone who can apply science and technology to the real world by designing buildings that enhance our standard of living and improve our quality of life. They do this by combining building systems – structural, electrical, mechanical, lighting, acoustics and fire protection - into an integrated whole.
To be an Arctitect you will practice your maths skills, science, computer science (particularly 3D modeling and linear programming) and art (such as drawing and art history).
Monday 1st March 2021 - Tasks
Watch - I want to be an Architect
Can you build a house using blocks you have at home? (lego, building blocks, weetabix)
What parts of the building can you label?
How tall can you make it? Is it strong?
Which material makes the strongest building? Lego or blocks? Why?
Which house falls down easiest? Lego or blocks? why?
Tuesday 2nd March
TEAMs Meeting at 10am - Come and join in our class experiment
Wednesday 3rd March
Task - Make a building using biscuits!!!!
You will need:
1 Make the edible cement by melting some small pieces of chocolate in a bowl on top of a pan of boiling water) or microwave. (An adult should do this.)
2 Use the melted chocolate like glue. When the chocolate goes hard, it will stick the biscuits together.
3 Make some edible biscuit buildings with multiple floors or even a roof! With chocolate stick biscuits you can build thin shapes. Pile up wafers like wooden blocks. Build a strong floor by sticking together two layers of rich tea biscuits. Construct strong posts by filling a biscuit hole with chococement and sticking in a round wafer. Thin crackers make good, strong roofs.
4 When you get bored, pretend to be a giant and eat your biscuit buildings
Next week you all come back to school, Yippee!!
