Summer Term

Why is our world so amazing? & How do I know if it is safe to cross the bridge?

During Summer 2, we will appreciate that we share our planet with many creatures. We will look closely at plants, animals and insects that are around us and enjoy a trip to Twycross Zoo. We will begin to notice certain patterns in the natural world, eg a spider spinning a web, ice melting, rainbows and the sun going behind clouds. We will explore the story 'Bog Baby' by Jeanne Willis and Gwen Millward. It is a lovely story which will enable us to retrieve information and start to infer characters' feelings from the pictures and text. Finally we will design and make a bridge to help the Three Billy Goats gruff. We will link this learning to prior learning about London Bridge and Sydney Harbour Bridge.

What are the differences between our country and others?

This term we will explore what it is like to go to school in Newstead Village and learn facts about England. We will take some virtual trips around London, Australia and Pakistan, as well as explore Africa through our English text 'Handa's Surprise'.

We will discuss the differences between our country and others.
