Oak Class is a small, lively and creative group of Year 6 pupils! We love learning new things, taking on exciting challenges, and working together as a team. This year, we're preparing for SATs, exploring fun science experiments, and enjoying class trips that make learning unforgettable.
Throughout the year, we will be working with the children to support them through a challenging time for them. Some work might be sent home, or you might see your child working on something that they are struggling with.
On this page you should find information about what we are doing and, hopefully, what you need to know.

Here are some helpful websites and tools to support your learning at home:
Year 6 is an exciting and important year! Students will prepare for SATs, develop independence, and get ready for secondary school. We focus on building confidence and life skills alongside academic achievement.
Read with your child regularly, practice times tables, encourage independence with homework, maintain a positive attitude about SATs, ensure good sleep and nutrition, and keep communication open with teachers.
SATs take place between Monday 11th 14th May and cover English (Reading, Grammar, Spelling) and Maths. Results help secondary schools understand your child's abilities. We prepare thoroughly while keeping learning fun and stress-free.
Regular reading (4+ times weekly), weekly spelling practice, times tables practice on TTRS, and occasional topic-based homework. Homework should take 30-45 minutes per week and support classroom learning.
Contact us via email at oak@newstead.notts.sch.uk or through the school office. We hold parents' evenings termly and are always happy to arrange meetings to discuss your child's progress.
Year 6 can be challenging. Talk to your child about their feelings, celebrate effort over results, maintain a balanced routine, and contact us if you have concerns. We're here to support both academic and emotional development.
