Belonging, equality, and pride are at the heart of the Newstead experience, and our school uniform reflects these core values. By wearing our school colours, pupils connect with a community that values who they are rather than what they wear. Crafted with fairness and flexibility in mind, our guidelines support our families while maintaining a smart environment where every child is ready to learn.
Key Points About Our Uniform:
Daily Uniform: Our uniform includes navy blue sweatshirts or cardigans, paired with a plain white or light blue polo top. Bottoms should be black or dark grey trousers, joggers, skirts, pinafores, or smart shorts. In the summer, blue and white gingham dresses may be worn.
Branded vs. Plain Items: Embroidered items (such as sweatshirts, cardigans, and polo shirts) are available from our online uniform supplier, Price & Buckland. However, plain versions in the correct school colours can easily be purchased from local supermarkets and high street shops to help keep costs manageable.
Hoodies Policy: Please note that hoodies and sports tops are not part of our standard school uniform. If children wear these to school, they will be asked to hang them up in the cloakroom, as they are not permitted in the classroom.
Footwear: Sensible, entirely black footwear must be worn (this includes entirely black school shoes or completely black trainers with no coloured or white trims). High-heeled, platform-soled shoes, sandals or 'Crocs' are not suitable. In wetter weather, children are encouraged to bring wellies and a waterproof coat to access outdoor learning areas.
Jewellery and Grooming: Jewellery is strictly limited to small ear studs and a wrist watch only. Pupils must be able to remove their own earrings for PE, or have plasters provided from home to cover them. Make-up, false nails, fake tattoos, and nail varnish are not permitted. Long hair must be tied back.
PE Kit: On assigned PE days, pupils should come to school wearing school-colour PE kits. This consists of a plain white t-shirt or white polo top, black shorts, and navy tracksuit bottoms/joggers or a navy sweatshirt (no logos). Brightly coloured sportswear or football kits are not allowed. Trainers are required for outdoor PE, and black indoor plimsoles/pumps are needed for indoor sessions.
Labelling: We strongly request that all clothing and personal items, including individual PE kit components, are clearly named (using permanent marker or labels) to ensure lost property can be quickly returned to its owner.
Supporting All Pupils We understand that some pupils and families may have specific needs or financial barriers related to uniform and appearance. Our policy is applied fairly and consistently, with consideration for individual circumstances and reasonable adjustments in line with the Equality Act 2010. If you have any concerns or require support, please do not hesitate to discuss your specific needs with us in school so that we can work together to find a solution.
Accessing the Policy The full uniform policy and details on suppliers can be accessed directly on the Newstead Primary and Nursery School Website. We encourage all parents and carers to reference it regularly to ensure that pupils come to school looking smart, comfortable, and ready to represent Newstead proudly.
If you have any questions or require further clarification, please feel free to get in touch with the school office or your child’s class teacher.
