What is the Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium is additional funding to help schools close the attainment gap between children from low-income families who may be vulnerable to underachievement. The amount received is dependent on the number of children who are eligible and have claimed for free school meals at any time in the last six years and children who have been looked after by the local authority for one day or more. The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and those who are not by ensuring funding reaches the pupils who need it most. Whilst schools are free to spend the pupil premium as they see fit we are required to publish online information about how the money has been used to support the pupils and the impact the expenditure has made.

Additionally, focused support and pastoral care is provided for children who require it to eliminate barriers to learning.
